Football Predictions
Hamburg’s sixth year in the German second tier might continue after Monday in the promotion playoff after losing the first leg of this tie to Stuttgart.
Tim Walter’s side were just minutes away from automatic promotion on the final day of the regular season before Heidenheim’s dramatic late turnaround in Regensburg. Now it’s looking very much like promotion/relegation play-off misery for the second consecutive season, unless they can produce something very special at the Volksparkstadion.
They were pathetic in the first leg against Stuttgart and had to depend on the brilliance of goalkeeper Daniel Heuer-Fernandes to keep the scoreline respectable. For them to have any ambitions of stopping their opponents, they’ll need to score a minimum of three goals and hope their opponents fail to find the back of the net in the game.
H2H/Stats
The two teams have a long-standing rivalry, meeting 118 times across ompetitions since 1937. Stuttgart lead 48-46.

Team News
Tim Walter has rarely changed his starting XI for Hamburg over the course of the season unless injuries have forced his hand and it remains to be seen if he will keep the same team that did duty in the first leg. Midfielder Laszlo Benes missed the first-leg through injury, but could be passed fit for the return leg. First-leg substitute Anssi Suhonen is suspended following his red card.
It would be a surprise if Sebastian Hoeness makes any changes to his starting line-up following the first leg win. Dan-Axel Zagadou was doubtful leading up to the first-leg, but was passed fit to sit on the bench and eventually came on in the second half. This means that as it stands, the only expected absentee for Stuttgart is striker Thomas Kastanaras.
Probable Line Ups
Hamburg XI: Heuer Fernandes; Heyer, David, Schonlau, Muheim; Reis, Meffert, Benes; Jatta, Glatzel, Kittel
Stuttgart XI: Muller; Mavropanos, Anton, Ito, Sosa; Vagnoman, Karazor, Endo, Fuhrich; Millot, Guirassy
Verdict
There is a feeling that the first leg win for Stuttgart already deflated any hopes of Hamburg returning to the Bundesliga. While the latter has an upper hand going to the second leg, nothing can be written off in the game of football. With the having no option but to attack from the onset, expect goals in the tie.

Anytime Goalscorer
Robert Glatzel❌
Glatzel has been Hamburg’s main man in Bundesliga 2 and despite being unlucky in the first leg, he is a player that cant be left to roam freely after bagging 19 goals in the regular Bundesliga 2 season.
Serhou Guirassy❌
Guirassy perfect season continued in the reverse fixture when he put his name on the scoresheet. The Rennes loanee had scored five times in the league making it 11 league goals since his return to German football and would want to finish the season strongly before heading back to France with Renne.
