- Offer live betting
- Cash out
- Long-term bets (League Winner)
- One-Click Bets
- Too many markets and it's confusing
- Only one deposit/withdrawal processor
With over 2,000 events to bet on every day, instant (partial) cash out and boosted odds on popular events, Melbet is the newest bookie in Kenya. Their website is confusing though as spreads (odds) aren’t listed in the tabular format we’re used to.
MelBet at a glance
Melbet Kenya is a brand run by Gametosha while the international version (stylized as MELbet) is run by Bonnal ltd and was registered in 2012 in Curacao. The Kenyan and the Nigerian version don’t have the online casino that’s featured in the Estonian Version. Even though this brand opened office in Nairobi last month (Aug 2020) it’s a name we’re familiar with as they’re La Liga’s official media partner. Their soft launch was in form of as sensitization operation against the COVID Pandemic where they helped clean Kibera slum. They are registered by the BCLB with license number 158. Being the most recent sportsbook to be licensed in Kenya, the curios now know that we’re about to have 160 mainstream betting sites in Kenya.
MelBet offer live betting
Their in-play events can be accessed by clicking the “live” button on the navigation bar. I found it confusing that they had over 1,000 markets on one in-play game and it was hard finding the OV 2.5 market(market); a personal favourite. Turns out there’s an OV 2, an OV 2.5 and an OV 3
This is a way of opting out of a bet before the event ends. Please note that the cash out sum is never equal to the initial win. It’s based on the odds at the time of cash out. If you had predicted that the game would end with OV 2.5 goals, and the away team is already two goals down by the tenth minute, you will get generous cash out value.
PRO TIP: When’s the best time to cash out? When you’re comfortable with the cash-out amount and there’s no significant benefit in further risk.
Long-term bets (League Winner)
We’ve been waiting for this feature forever and Melbet is the first bookie to introduce this option to the Kenyan market.
Premier League is the most followed league.
Melbet has introduced multiple markets on the same and there’s value to be found. At the time of this writing, Liverpool had 3.24 odds compared to Man City’s 2.25. Bet on who’ll be last place, who’ll be relegated, which goalkeeper will concede the least number of goals this season and other exciting markets. Check the out. Interesting stuff.
The 2020/21 season will be played behind closed doors and I don’t expect Manchester City to take the trophy this time round (unless they sign in Messi). Messi is their ticket to stopping Liverpool from hitting the top spot. Again, Manchester City draws strength from their home supporters and now that there would be no fans; their home advantage will have been reduced considerably.
Make faster bets by flipping the “one-click” switch. Bet Slips will be cast as soon as you make picks, This comes in handy when live betting where odds change by the second.
I loved the search feature too. Use it when copying your tipster’s slip and are unable to find events they’ve wagered on.
Too many markets and it’s confusing.
The markets are so many that you may be unable to find what you’re looking for. I tried filtering picks with their tool but it was still confusing.
Melbet payment methods-Only one deposit/withdrawal processor
M-Pesa is the only payment processor they’re working with. Credit cards and other mobile transfer platforms cannot be used. The M-Pesa deposit process was cumbersome too. Other bookies have an online request form where you’re only required to input your M-Pesa PIN and I found their deposit process cumbersome.
I would give Melbet a 4 star. I love the new features they’re introducing to the Kenyan gambling marker but it will take some time getting used to their interface and options.
Melbet Customer Service
For even faster customer responses, contact them through the Social Media pages listed at the bottom of the site. This is a new brand and there isn’t much on their Facebook page yet. Man Collo was unable to register and it looks like the issue was sorted out. On Social Media, no news is good news. Believe me.
The signup process was simple and a username/password combo will be delivered by SMS to the registered number.
The Melbet platform
Easy to navigate, loads fast and they feature e-sports too. I loved the search feature, quick bet feature and that the 20% withholding tax is communicated upfront.
I found it interesting that the accumulator of the day featured markets I’m a fan of. Notice the 1.1 odd bonus too.
There was a BTTS a.k.a GG pick and two Next Goal Score picks. I love the GG/NG market as it’s somewhat independent to the outcome and you don’t care who’s winning. A goal is a goal. Sportsbooks worth their salt settle these slips as soon as the outcome is ascertained and you can use these winnings to wager on that game again.
Melbet Bonus and promotions
100% cashback on multibet slips that lose by one game
This applies to both pre-match (upcoming) and live-bet games. You’ll get your stake back if your multibet slip loses by one team. There must be at least seven picks in your multibet slip and they must all exceed 1.7 odds
Enrol to this club by clicking “join the club” on your profile and you will be awarded points for these qualifying events. Multi bets and higher stakes attract higher points.
3000 Kes free bet
This is their generous welcome offer where new players get a Kes 3000 free bet after depositing kes 1000. This offer can only be claimed on events exceeding 1.50 odds (1.20 after tax) though
Quality of odds
Melbet has a reasonable vig (7%) and they are worth wagering with.
Kes 22 is the minimum stake at Melbet. There is no maximum stake.
MelBet Mobile Apps
Melbet has mobile apps for both iOS and Android. A few select events can be livestreamed for free through their app. Download the app from their website. Please note that “official” sportsbook apps are rarely uploaded to the play store. You will have to enable installation of apps from unknown sources if you haven’t already done so.
Only one soccer match is highlighted on the homepage; unlike we’re used to. The search bar is the fastest way of finding football events as they’re grouped by leagues and it may be hard finding popular ones.

This European sportsbook was launched in Kenya a month ago and we can now wager without limits

Who owns Melbet?
It’s owned by Bonnal Ltd, a Cyprus company but they run
I’m Kanyi Muturi and am from Tabuga, a small village in Nakuru. I have been following all sports since I was a kid and have been interested in the gambling side of sports since I was in high school. It took me a little while to get a grasp on all of the different gambling terminology and understand how confusing and complicated it can all seem when you first start.
Are you a professional gambler?
I am a successful gambler. But make no mistake about it: I’m a long-time recreational sports bettor. I’m not a professional gambler. I’m not claiming to be a professional gambler. I’ve never, to my recollection, even been acquainted with a professional gambler. And far be it from me to make the preposterous claim that following my advice will turn you into a professional gambler. It ain’t about that. Not here it ain’t. I just want to teach you a new form of recreation, a fun new pastime in what can sometimes be an unfun life.
