Betting Tips
The 2023 African Cup of Nations continued for its third day with defending Champions Senegal entering the field against Gambia.
African giants Cameroon will also be in action so will Algeria as they come against Guinea and Angola respectively. TopbetsKE picks the top five betting fixtures you can place your money on plus extra two tips for our readers on this day.
Senegal v Gambia
Defending champions Senegal get their Africa Cup of Nations campaign up and running against Gambia. A penalty-shootout win over Egypt in the final two years ago saw Senegal lift the AFCON trophy for the first time, and they are one of the favourites to do so again and defend their crown.
A fast start is important in Group C, with Cameroon next up for Senegal, but Gambia will be eyeing an opening shock. They reached the quarter-finals in 2022, beating Tunisia and Guinea, also in Group C, on their way to the last eight.
In the teams, Senegal’s Boulaye Dia and backup goalkeeper Seny Dieng have been ruled out of the tournament for Senegal, with Bamba Dieng and Alfred Gomis called up to the squad as replacements. Sadio Mane will be a key man up front as ever, while former Chelsea duo Edouard Mendy and Kalidou Koulibaly will be crucial figures in defence.
The Gambia squad were forced to make an emergency landing on their flight to Yamoussoukro, with players falling asleep due to a lack of oxygen. Gambia boss Tom Saintfiet said his players were still struggling with nausea and headaches a day later.
Verdict
Senegal look set for a strong title defence, with plenty of experience in a star-studded squad. They were difficult to score against when lifting the trophy two years ago and that foundation appears to still be a strength, with a routine, if uneventful, win expected here.

Cameroon v Guinea
Cameroon open their campaign against Guinea at the Stade Charles Konan Banny de Yamoussoukro. Both Cameroon and Guinea believe they can qualify from AFCON Group C and a competitive tussle between the sides is anticipated in Yamoussoukro. Both teams had excellent goal-getting records in the run-up to the tournament and our opening Cameroon vs Guinea prediction anticipated goals from both teams.
Team News
Cameroon are without the services of key attackers Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Bryan Mbuemo at AFCON, though they still have plenty of quality in their ranks. In Vincent Aboubakar, they have a striker who has hit 37 goals for his country and looks like a strong candidate for the Golden Boot. Aboubakar has managed to lodge goals in four of his last six runouts for Cameroon and will be looking to extend that streak.
Guinea have plenty of experience to draw from at AFCON and ten players in their ranks have amassed 20 or more international caps. Captain Naby Keita is the top scorer in their squad but big things are expected of in-form Stuttgart star Serhou Guirassy.
