Betting Tips

It’s the turn of four teams to find two tickets in the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after Nigeria and Angola sailed through the round of 16 unscathed.

TopbetsKE picks the top five betting fixtures you can place your money on plus an extra two tips for our readers.

Mali v Burkina Faso

Mali take on Burkina Faso in the penultimate last-16 match at the Africa Cup of Nations. A quarter-final clash against either defending champions Senegal or hosts Ivory Coast is the prize, and it is Mali who are the slight favourites to book their place in that match. They finished top of Group E, beating South Africa and then drawing with Tunisia and Namibia, and they now look to avoid a third successive AFCON exit at the last-16 stage.

Burkina Faso finished fourth two years ago and made a confident start to this tournament when beating Mauritania, but then drew with Algeria and were beaten by Angola, as they went through as runners-up in Group D.

Team News

Mali are not believed to have any fitness concerns, with Yves Bissouma returning to the starting lineup against Namibia last time out. Lassine Sinayoko will once again be a key man, having scored two of Mali’s three goals at the tournament.

Burkina Faso will have Mohamed Konate and Ibrahim Toure available again, after both missed the final group-stage match due to suspension. Djibril Ouattara is likely to drop out of the side, having been replaced at half-time against Angola after failing to impress when leading the line.

H2H

  • Mali wins: 8
  • Burkina Faso wins: 1
  • Draws: 1

Tip: Over 2.5 Goals

Morocco v South Africa

Before the tournament, the bookies see Morocco as one of the favourites to win AFCON 2023. They have gained that “status” after a tremendous performance in the FIFA World Cup 2022, where they reached the semi-finals, becoming the first African team to reach that achievement. Compared with the World Cup squad, it doesn’t change at all.

Meanwhile, Bafana Bafana showed that they have enough quality to fight with every team in this tournament.

The interesting bit is both teams were in the same group during the AFCON qualifiers. Morocco earned a 2:1 victory at home, while in the reverse game, South Africa bounced back and registered a 2:1 score in their favour so we expect goals in this one.
