Betting Tips

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is headed for its climax with the semi-finals set to take place on Wednesday.

Nigeria will be up against South Africa with hosts Ivory Coast having a date with DR Congo. Apart from the semi-final games, TopbetsKE picks the top five betting fixtures you can place your money on plus extra two tips for our readers.

Nigeria v South Africa

A meeting of two imperious defenses will decide the first entrant to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final, when South Africa and Nigeria meet on Wednesday.

The Super Eagles have conceded just one goal at this AFCON and dispatched Angola in a tight game to qualify for the semi-finals. But Bafana Bafana matched their run of four consecutive clean sheets as goalkeeper Ronwen Williams delivered the heroics in their penalty shootout win over Cape Verde.

Only once since their last Cup of Nations title, which came just over a decade ago, have Nigeria reached the last four – and they have lost five of their last six AFCON semi-finals. South Africa’s wait stretches back even further, with no title since 1996 and this their first run to the last four since 2000.

Verdict

Both teams have been outstanding defensively throughout the tournament and it feels as though a single goal will prove the difference in this game.

Tip: Under 2.5 Goals

Ivory Coast v DR Congo

Ivory Coast will be looking to continue with their rollercoaster run when they meet DR Congo in the semi finals of the AFCON competition.

They had drama in their quarter-final win over Mali, when they delivered by a 90th-minute equalizer through Simon Adringra before Oumar Diakite turned home the winner in stoppage time of extra time. Now they face a DR Congo side that has flown under the radar in their bid to lift a third AFCON on home soil.

Team News

The hosts will be without both Oumar Diakite and Odilon Kossounou after they were sent off against Mali, the former receiving his second booking for removing his shirt in celebrating the winning goal. Willy Boly is most likely to step in for Kossounou in defence whereas Sebastien Haller may finally be fit to start having overcome an ankle injury.

Verdict

It has been nigh on impossible to knock the hosts out of this tournament, no matter how likely it appears to have been on multiple occasions so we expect goals.
