Betting Tips

The 2023 Africa Cup of Nations is headed for its climax with the Quarter-finals set for Friday where Nigeria will be up against Angola as DR Congo take on Guinea.

TopbetsKE picks the top five betting fixtures you can place your money on plus an extra two tips for our readers.

Nigeria v Angola

Nigeria took on Cameroon in their first knockout match where a goal in each half from Ademola Lookman proved enough for the Super Eagles to win the game. Another strong defensive performance from Nigeria played a big part in that win but Cameroon aren’t the side they once were and Angola should provide more of a test.

Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali had to come off with ten minutes to go against Cameroon and could be replaced by Francis Uzoho in the quarter-final.

Despite having their goalkeeper sent off after just seventeen minutes, Angola took the lead against Namibia through Gelson Dala. Namibia had a man of their own sent off in the fortieth minute and shortly after Dala doubled his and Angola’s tally. A third goal via Mabululu made sure of the result for the Black Sable Antelopes in the sixty-sixth minute, setting up a date with Nigeria in the quarter-finals.

António Signori will start in goal against Nigeria following Neblú’s sending-off.

Verdict

Nigeria might have started slowly in the tournament but their confidence seems to have grown over the games they have played and will once again be the favorites in this tie.

Tip: Nigeria win

DR Congo v Guinea

DR Congo has played four matches at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, and all four finished with a draw if we look up only the regular 90 minutes. In the 1/8 final, they played 1-1 against Egypt but showed remarkable skill in a penalty shootout and progressed to the quarterfinal.

Guinea’s biggest success at the Africa Cup of Nations came in 1976 when they lost in the final against Morocco. Since then, Guinea’s best achievements were five quarterfinals, including this year’s result. Kaba Diawara’s team progressed to the knockout phase as third-placed in their group, but after that, they stunned Equatorial Guinea with a 1-0 victory. Now, Guinea will have a chance to fight for their first semifinal since 1976.

Verdict

Following Congo’s reserved approach and Guinea’s failure to score a lot of goals, this is a game that should produce fewer goals.

Tip: Under 2.5 goals
