Betting Tips

Hosts Ivory Coast meets Nigeria in one of the most anticipated games in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

TopbetsKE picks the top five betting fixtures you can place your money on plus an extra two tips for our readers.

Ivory Coast v Nigeria

The hosts beat Guinea-Bissau 2-0 in the opener and will be looking to book their place in the next round with another win but face a Nigeria side who have no option but to ensure they don’t lose after being held to a 1-1 draw by Equatorial Guinea in their first game.

The Super Eagles have a huge amount of pressure on their shoulders as they have a very talented attacking unit. Despite Nigeria winning this tournament three times, their last trophy came in 2013 which was two years before the Ivory Coast won their second trophy.

Team News

Ivory Coast has familiar names from the Premier League fans as Ibrahim Sangare, Willy Boly, Serge Aurier, and Nicolas Pepe all featured in the first game. This is a side that boasts of rising stars as Roma center-back Evan Ndicka leads their defense, while former Lens star Seko Fofana is a real threat from midfield and Franck Kessie’s quality in midfield is undoubted. Injury-wise, Les Elephants were hit with two blows as Brighton’s Simon Adingra (hamstring) and Dortmund’s Sebastien Haller (ankle) are both out for the early stages of the tournament.

For Nigeria, Premier League stars Alex Iwobi, Frank Onyeka, Calvin Bassey, and Ola Aina all feature in their draw against Equatorial Guinea. Victor Osimhen is their star striker but Nigeria have so many options in attack with Ademola Lookman, Joe Aribo, Ahmed Musa, Kelechi Iheancho and Paul Onuachu all having Premier League experience and looking to make a big impact in this tournament.

Tip: Ivory Coast 1-1 Nigeria

Egypt v Ghana

Egypt and Ghana meet in Abidjan for their second match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Thursday night in another standout fixture of the tournament as both heavyweights seek their first win.

The Pharaohs, who head into this edition of the tournament as the beaten finalists two years ago, needed a 97th-minute Mohamed Salah penalty to rescue a 2-2 draw to earn a point against a Mozambique side who have never won a match at any AFCON before. The Pharaohs are the competition’s most successful team of all time, having been crowned champions of Africa on seven occasions, at least two more times than any other nation, and remain favorites to top Group B despite their opening-day disappointment.

Ghana’s incredibly frail performance in their shock defeat to Cape Verde leaves them as very heavy underdogs heading into their crunch match against Egypt.

Egypt haven’t tasted defeat against Ghana in 11 years, winning three of the four matches they’ve played each other since, and lead the all-time head-to-head 10-5 in wins from 20 matches.

Tip Egypt 2-1 Ghana
