Why this match matters
Kenya bettors who want to see some serious football action have a reason to tune into this Group A World Cup match. South Africa and Czechia, both had bad starts when Czechia beat South Korea 2-1 (after trailing) and South Africa got destroyed by Mexico 2-0 on the same day. Betters will get to make hay by finding some very good bets among many others in some of these markets on the strength of South Africa’s defensive weaknesses now that they’ve lost two of their top defenders (suspended), plus Czechia’s offensive capabilities that include the dangerous Patrik Schick.

- Czechia vs South Africa 2:2
Head-to-head record
These two countries have played each other only once, and that was back in 1997. They tied 2-2 in a Confederation Cup game. Vladimír Šmicer scored twice for Czechia and Helman Mkhalele scored for South Africa. Because it has been 29 years since these two teams played each other, they will have little basis for comparison or analysis based on head-to-head data.
Czechia recent form
Czechia’s last five matches

Goals scored and conceded
Czechia has proven themselves to be capable of scoring in their last few pre-game matches. Since their last 15 matches began, Czechia has scored 29 and allowed 16, so Czechia has shown itself to be a team that scores frequently; however, they also show vulnerability in defense. Although Czechia took the lead in the World Cup vs. South Korea and only managed to score one time, this does suggest that Czechia can score on a less stout defense. With respect to defending in their last 15 matches, South Africa has let in 14 goals and allowed 20, however, in their World Cup opener vs. Mexico, they were completely defeated — failing to score and allowing Mexico to score twice. The loss of Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane via red card greatly weakened South Africa’s defense and its midfield. In terms of Expected Goals Average per match — 1.41 EGM per match by Czechia vs. .78 EGM per match by South Africa — it would appear that Czechia will be able to take control of the scoring. Based upon the disparity in attacking quality, it would seem reasonable to assume that Czechia will be able to score at least two goals against South Africa’s battered defense.
Key trends from recent matches
Since their last 15 matches started, Czechia has won eight times, drawn four times and lost three times. Of course, Czechia has six home wins and no home losses in ten home matches. As well, Czechia’s is showing much better team cohesion lately and better overall performance recently.

Key trends from recent matches
South Africa’s form is worrisome; with six wins, five draws and four losses — although they haven’t won any of their last five matches heading into this World Cup.
Team news
Adam Hložek — Czechia’s attacking midfielder — has completed his recovery from long term calf and foot injuries and joined the preliminary World Cup roster — although coach Miroslav Koubek is just warming him up before he makes his decision. While forward Jan Kuchta is questionable for selection — defenders Václav Černý and Matěj Vydra are ruled out of the squad altogether. On a different note, defender David Doudera was previously banned by Slavia Prague for disciplinary reasons but it appears that he has worked things out for his national team duties.
In addition to Adam Hložek returning from a long term injury — Czechia brings several other talented players into the fray including Patrik Schick from Bayer Leverkusen as their primary source of goal production — having scored 16 league goals last year — West Ham’s Tomas Souček as a towering figure in the set piece area — and Lyon’s Pavel Šulc as an exciting creative player. Their projected starting lineup features Kovar in goal — a defense composed of Coufal, Hranac and Krejci — midfielders Souček and Sojka — and Schick leading the charge upfront. Czechia boasts considerable size with Schick standing 191 cm tall giving them a huge size advantage in the air.
South Africa team news
The biggest problem facing the away team is the loss of Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane, who were both given red cards by referee Cesar Ramos and therefore are automatically suspended for this game. The coach of South Africa, Hugo Broos said he thought it was “a bit too soft” when referring to the dismissal of Themba Zwane, but stated that the team would have to live with the suspension. Due to injuries suffered prior to the start of the tournament, Orlando Pirates forwards Tshepo Moremi and masindise Nemtajela may miss out on the World Cup. Burnley’s Lyle Foster will likely lead south africa forward with his ability to press defenders and run channels. Mamelodi Sundowns’s Teboho Mokoena is still the midfield general where every move runs through him. As a result of being an Orlando Pirates player and having a number of high-profile appearances (such as playing for England U-17), the 21 year-old Relebohile Mofokeng is viewed as the next big thing and has potential to add some youthful energy to the midfield with mokoena. At just 20 years of age, USA based defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi is seen as a candidate to eventually become the captain of Bafana Bafana.
In addition to these problems, South Africa had visa troubles that delayed their trip to Mexico which caused the team to arrive late, after the other members of group a had already arrived. In addition to their visa problems, South Africa received a penalty for three points in world cup qualifying for the same reason as why south african midfielder Teboho Mokoena missed a match for accumulating yellow cards; demonstrating another disciplinary issue within the south african national team.

Best betting markets for Czechia vs South Africa
Prediction tip #1: win – Czech Republic
Our predictions favor the Czech Republic winning this match. We feel that Czech Republic’s temporal probability points advantage along with South Africa’s defensive depletion make Czech Republic heavily favored to win this match. The Czech Republic has been undefeated in their last ten home games and we see them as a 0.5 goal favorite in this matchup.
Prediction tip #2: Will both Teams score?
We believe that there will be no scoring by either team in this matchup. The Czech republic will get at least one goal while South Africa will struggle to get any offense due to missing several of their key players. In their last match, South Africa did not score against Mexico and now they are struggling defensively as well.
Prediction tip #3: total number of Goals – less than 2.5
Given Czech Republic’s expected goal (xg) total of 2.19 against South Africa’s xg total of .78 we believe that this matchup can be very low-scoring. Also, both Teams will probably play cautiously in order to pick up valuable points so we expect this matchup to be fairly low-scoring.
Prediction tip #4: Czech republic Over 0.5 Goals
Czech Republic has been able to create many chances recently against opponents such as South Korea and South Africa has struggled to defend. We think the Czech Republic should gain a significant advantage in terms of height over South Africa and we anticipate the Czech Republic to take full advantage of it.
Where to bet on Czechia vs South Africa
Czechia vs South Africa prediction
Best bet
Based on previous performances, the Czech Republic has done very well in their home matches in Atlanta (neutral site). They have six wins and four ties in their last ten home games and have never lost in those ten games. However, South Africa has performed poorly in their last six away games with a record of two wins, two ties and two losses. Although South Africa has historically been successful against European Teams in the World Cup, especially considering they have won two and tied one of their last four world cup matches against European Teams, they have been greatly diminished due to red card suspensions affecting Sphephelo Sithole and Themba Zwane. The loss of these two key players will require South Africa to drastically alter their strategy which will undoubtedly affect their performance.
Correct score prediction
The most likely way that Czechia are going to win is by winning by one goal. This is due in part to Czechia’s expected attacking threat of 1.41 goals per match and South Africa’s expected defensive capabilities of 0.78 goals per match.
Match analysis and verdict
Czechia took an early lead over South Korea before ultimately losing 2-1; however, they showed they were capable of competing at the highest level when they had possession of the ball and could convert their leads into victories.
South Africa suffered a disastrous loss to Mexico 2-0 with two red cards being shown to opposing players, leaving them significantly weakened and unable to produce quality scoring opportunities, even with eleven players on the field.
This is why we’re going for a Czech win.

I’m Kanyi Muturi and am from Tabuga, a small village in Nakuru. I have been following all sports since I was a kid and have been interested in the gambling side of sports since I was in high school. It took me a little while to get a grasp on all of the different gambling terminology and understand how confusing and complicated it can all seem when you first start.
Are you a professional gambler?
I am a successful gambler. But make no mistake about it: I’m a long-time recreational sports bettor. I’m not a professional gambler. I’m not claiming to be a professional gambler. I’ve never, to my recollection, even been acquainted with a professional gambler. And far be it from me to make the preposterous claim that following my advice will turn you into a professional gambler. It ain’t about that. Not here it ain’t. I just want to teach you a new form of recreation, a fun new pastime in what can sometimes be an unfun life.
