5/1 Football Predictions: Tottenham face Burnley in an all-Premier League FA Cup tie

Home » 5/1 Football Predictions: Tottenham face Burnley in an all-Premier League FA Cup tie

Football Prediction

Tottenham and Burnley face off in an all-Premier League tie in the third round of the FA Cup on Friday as both seek to win silverware this season.

Eight-time winners of the FA Cup, Tottenham last won the competition in 1991 and haven’t reached the final since. It’s been four fifth-round exits in the past four years for Tottenham, and they haven’t failed to make it past the third round since 2013/14 when they were beaten by Arsenal.

Burnley, meanwhile, will have the Premier League relegation battle as their main priority this season, but a good cup run could be good for their morale and momentum. The Vincent Komapny side did make it to the quarter-finals of the competition last season, having been knocked out of the third round the year before.

H2H / Stats

2 September 2023 – Burnley 2-5 Tottenham – Premier League

15 May 2022 – Tottenham 1-0 Burnley – Premier League

23 February 2022 – Burnley 1-0 Tottenham – Premier League

27 October 2021 – Burnley 0-1 Tottenham – EFL Cup

28 February 2021 – Tottenham 4-0 Burnley – Premier League

Team News

Yves Bissouma is already with Mali for the Africa Cup of Nations, with Pape Matar Sarr also expected to be unavailable, ready to represent Senegal. Manor Solomon, James Maddison, Ryan Sessegnon, and Micky van de Ven are all expected back in mid-January, but this game will be far too soon. Rodrigo Bentancur won’t be back until the end of the month, while Ivan Perisic is a long-term absentee. Son Heung-min will miss this game too as he will be in South Korea ahead of the Asian Cup.

For Burnley, Luca Koleosho will still be out with an injury with Sander Berge also missing due to his red card in the club’s last outing against Aston Villa.

Probable Line-Up

Tottenham Hotspur XI: Forster (GK), Porro, Emerson, Dier, Davies, Gil, Bentancur, Lo Celso, Johnson, Kulusevski, Richarlison

Burnley XI: Trafford (GK), Vitinho, O’Shea, Beyer, Taylor, Gudmundsson, Ramsey, Brownhill, Odobert, Forster, Amdouni

Verdict

Tottenham is expected to make a chunk of changes in their starting line up but they should this tie off considering Burnley’s main aim this season is to stay afloat in the Premier League.
