What is a corner kick?
A corner kick occurs when the ball goes out of bounds (over the goal line) after being last touched by a defensive player. That’s easy enough to remember. However, the amount of corners in a single contest can say a great deal about whether a team is creating pressure through their attacking, their style of playing, wide crossing and how much they’re making the opposing team work to protect.
Types of corner betting

Corner betting is similar to other types of football betting. When you wager on corners, you are basically forecasting how many times the ball will go out of bounds via a corner kick. Most commonly, the odds provided by bookmakers include three options; over/under total corners, team corners and first half corners.
Most people take advantage of the over/under total corner lines. This is the amount of total corner kicks in a Match. For example, if the “over” total corner line was at 7.5, you would win your over bet if there were eight or more corner kicks in the entire Match. Likewise, if there were seven or less, you would win your “under”. That .5 point is crucial because it eliminates the possibility of both sides having the same number of corners and drawing on the bet.
Another popular form of corner betting is team corners. Team corners allow you to place a bet on each individual team’s amount of corner kicks. This is beneficial when one team is expected to attack more from the flanks or have possession in the opponents penalty area. Another type of corner betting is first-half corners. If you believe a contest will begin quickly and then dwindle into a slow-paced affair, first-half corners could be a good option.
How do corners get counted?
Corners are counted when the referee awards a corner kick and that corner kick is successfully completed. If the ball leaves the field as a result of a defensive foul, that usually results in a corner kick. If the ball leaves the field due to an offensive foul, it does not count toward that offense’s total corner count.
All standard corner wagers typically resolve upon completion of regular time and stoppage time (i.e., 90 minutes). Any additional time added (such as Extra-time), does not count unless stated otherwise within your chosen market.
Additionally, corners are counted differently than goals. In some cases, contests can be low-scoring affairs yet possess numerous corner kicks. As a result, corner betting can develop at its own unique pace.
Reading each match before betting
Typically, the best value in corner betting comes from contests where one team is attempting to attack down the flanks and apply pressure on the opposing backline. Teams that consistently cross and attempt to shoot from the flanks or maintain extended periods near an opponent’s penalty area tend to generate more corner kicks than teams that do not exhibit these characteristics.
However, you must not forget that each contest has two sides. The opposition can be equally effective in generating corner kicks against you. For instance, if the opposition plays extremely defensively and consistently clears the ball away from their penalty area, they are likely going to generate more corners for the attacking side than vice versa. On the other hand, if the opposition presses well and neutralizes attacks originating from the flanks early on, they may limit the total number of corners generated in a contest. Therefore, it is never solely about one team.
In addition to considering which teams are generating corners, you must also consider the overall tempo of each contest. Typically, contests with high levels of movement along the flanks produce more corners than contests with low levels of movement. Additionally, if a team is trailing and attempting to find a goal late in a contest, it may apply increased pressure on the opposing backline resulting in an increase in corners. For this reason, live betting can be particularly useful in this particular market.
Although it may seem obvious, do not disregard how each team starts a match. The manner in which each team begins an encounter can provide valuable insight into potential future developments.
If each team begins moving the ball to the sidelines and blocking near an opponent’s penalty area early in a Match, I suspect the number of corners generated throughout that contest may exceed initial expectations. Conversely, if each team begins slowly and centrally, I anticipate it may remain relatively quiet in terms of corner generation for an extended period of time.
When to Bet corners
The best approach is to select fixtures that clearly provide the corner pattern you are looking for. Certain games lend themselves to more corners than others.
Games featuring two attacking sides that favor width could be considered strong options for corners. Games involving teams where one team is defending deep and the opposing side is continually pressing forward, the pressuring team can accumulate corners simply based off of their pressure alone. Additionally, when one team is in dire need of a result they tend to have increased opportunities for corners due to them committing numerous forwards.
First-half corner bets are generally used when you anticipate a rapid initial attack from the preferred side. Full-game corner bets are more beneficial when you believe the pressure will build at a steady pace throughout the game.
Team corner bets are most beneficial when one side has a significant advantage in terms of width or control of possession in dangerous zones.

Common Errors to avoid when betting on corners
One common error is placing wagers on corners solely due to a team’s popularity. Popularity does not lead to corners; match play does. You should focus on how your chosen attacking team plays, not how popular it is.
A second error is failing to consider the opposing team. Both teams contribute to the number of corners. A dominant attacking team against a defensive-minded backline will potentially generate many corners, but poor, uneventful matches between two capable teams will frequently produce few corners.
Thirdly, forcing under corner bets is also an error made by many beginner users. Most first-time users assume that under corner bets are safer; however, this is not necessarily accurate. Even though either side may be capable of creating many scoring opportunities, one aggressive surge by an attacking team can dramatically alter an entire market in a matter of minutes. Therefore, if you wish to place wagers on corners effectively, you must be patient and disciplined.

I’m Kanyi Muturi and am from Tabuga, a small village in Nakuru. I have been following all sports since I was a kid and have been interested in the gambling side of sports since I was in high school. It took me a little while to get a grasp on all of the different gambling terminology and understand how confusing and complicated it can all seem when you first start.
Are you a professional gambler?
I am a successful gambler. But make no mistake about it: I’m a long-time recreational sports bettor. I’m not a professional gambler. I’m not claiming to be a professional gambler. I’ve never, to my recollection, even been acquainted with a professional gambler. And far be it from me to make the preposterous claim that following my advice will turn you into a professional gambler. It ain’t about that. Not here it ain’t. I just want to teach you a new form of recreation, a fun new pastime in what can sometimes be an unfun life.
