The UEFA Champions League 2025/26 has begun, and for the first time, the final will be played at Hungary’s Puskás Aréna.

The new Champions League format continues for a second season, having started in 2024 and running through to 2027. The traditional group stage is gone, replaced by a single 36-team league table where every club plays eight matches against different opponents.

Knockout stage Champions League Predictions

Galatasaray vs. Juventus

Tip: GG

Rams Park is going to be a tough nut for any big European team to crack, and Galatasaray’s current form in front of goal suggests they’ll be able to find the back of the Juventus net. They’ve had a pretty good record with ‘Both Teams to Score’ coming in on them in a few recent high-profile matches , including that draw with Atletico Madrid late last year. Juventus, who keep things tight at home in Serie A, have still shown some vulnerability on their travels in Europe – take their recent trip to Monaco for instance. With Osimhen leading the charge up front (he’s been on fire in the competition, 6 goals so far) and Vlahovic getting back into the swing of things at the other end, we can expect goals at both ends here.

Benfica vs. Real Madrid

Tip: Ov2.5

We all remember that six-goaler they played each other in January, with Benfica pulling off a massive 4-2 upset. Real Madrid, for their part, have been playing some high-scoring games in Europe lately – just think back to that 6-1 demolition of Monaco. Real are looking for revenge after their recent loss at the Estádio da Luz, and Benfica have shown they can mix it with the best of them – so it’s little wonder that the ‘Over 2.5’ line looks like a pretty safe bet.

Borussia Dortmund vs. Atalanta

Tip: 1

You don’t make Borussia Dortmund any more formidable at home than they already are here at the Westfalenstadion. The stats back up a home win here, of course – and Atalanta, despite being a threat on their day, have struggled to get the kind of consistency on their travels that you’d want to see if you’re going to come to Dortmund and get the result. They’ve actually lost half their recent away games this season. Dortmund, on the other hand, have a pretty impressive win rate at home in the European knockout rounds. The predictive models are saying the German side have about a 50% chance of a straight win, and with the wall of noise behind them, I think they might just edge a tight victory.

Monaco vs. Paris Saint-Germain

Tip: 2

While Monaco are always a tricky proposition at home, the Ligue 1 form book tells a different story: PSG are sitting pretty top of the table with 15 wins from 20 games, while Monaco are struggling to stay afloat in mid-table after a string of recent losses. PSG, of course, have a pretty strong head-to-head record against Monaco – they’ve won 3 of their last 4 meetings. And, given that Monaco have been shipping goals left and right lately (6-1 to Real Madrid, anyone?) , I reckon the PSG attack will be clinical enough to get the win on the road.

Qarabağ vs. Newcastle United

Tip: GG

Newcastle are facing one of the longest trips you can do in European football out to Azerbaijan, and Qarabag are notorious for being very difficult to beat at home. The Magpies have also had some struggles keeping clean sheets away from home in the Champions League this season – the 1-1 draw with PSG being a notable example. Qarabag have, on the other hand, shown that they can score against English opposition, like they did against Chelsea in their earlier game. Newcastle’s superior quality should see them score, but you can’t count on Qarabag not finding the net at all – they’re a pretty resilient outfit.

Bodø/Glimt vs. Inter Milan

Tip: 2

Realistically, the artificial turf in Norway might make things interesting but you can’t completely discount Inter Milan’s rich European experience. They effectively outdid Bodø/Glimt in the league phase and have a much cleaner defensive record, having kept four clean sheets out of their last eight European matches. While Bodø/Glimt are nearly unbeatable at home in the Aspmyra Stadion, Inter’s know-how in two legged knockouts and Lautaro Martinez’s goal scoring form should be just enough to keep the home fans quiet.

Club Brugge vs. Atletico Madrid

Tip: Over 2.5

Atletico’s reputation for consistently low-scoring matches has been a thing in the past, but recent results suggest a shift in the tide. Club Brugge have been involved in some real barnburners in Europe in recent times, with a 4-3 thriller and a 3-0 win under their belt. Atletico’s defensive record has been nothing short of disastrous on the road, and given Brugge’s desperation for a home result before they have to head to Madrid, Brugge are likely to take some serious risks. Given that the two teams have a history of producing goals (even a 3-1 result in their last encounter) it’s safe to say you can expect plenty of goals in this one.

Olympiakos vs. Bayer Leverkusen

Tip: 1

Leverkusen have been having a right old time of it in 2026, losing their opening two matches of the year and it’s not just the winning that’s been a problem – they’ve also shown a shocking lack of defensive cohesion, conceding a pretty steep expected goals count. Olympiakos, on the other hand, are a different beast altogether when they’re at home in the Karaiskakis Stadium, where they’re averaging nearly 2 goals per game in Europe this season. With Leverkusen’s confidence in tatters after back to back losses, the Greeks should be able to tap into the electric atmosphere in the stadium and grab a valuable first leg lead.
