Burnley vs. Tottenham Hotspur Match preview

The English Premier League is set to continue on Monday Night with eighteenth placed Burnley hosting Tottenham at Turf Moor Stadium. Burnley fought to a first point of the campaign in their four games only to secure a goalless draw at West Brom on Monday; the Premier League’s first 0-0 of the 2020/21. Both teams had chances at The Hawthorns, so it was probably a fair result.

Tottenham would be second in the table but for two very different late equalizers saw them drop two crucial points. Manuel Lanzini’s stunning strike last time out completed a remarkable West Ham comeback, while VAR controversy took them off their feet against Newcastle United.

Match Facts

  • Clarets are yet to register a single victory in their last five Premier League games (D1,L4)
  • Burnley have managed to keep one clean sheet in their last four Premier League matches.
  •  Spurs have played four EPL matches so far, winning twice and drawing twice.
  • Tottenham have not kept a clean-sheet in their last four Premier League matches.
  •  Less than two goals have been scored in 5 of Burnley’s last 6 home games.

Team News

Matt Lowton is expected to return after an ankle injury.

Claret full-back Erik Pieters is an early doubt for the clash for Jose Mourinho’s men with a calf injury and Phil Bardsley is still out following his positive coronavirus test.

Spurs have very few injury concerns ahead of their trip to Turf Moor as Jose Mourinho juggles his congested schedule. Eric Dier (thigh) will be assessed while Japhet Tanganga is a long-term absentee.

Ben Mee and Jack Cork are both sidelined for Claret, with Kevin Long expected to play alongside Ben Mee as usual at the defence.

Japhet Tanganga misses out for Tottenham, against LASK, but Jose Mourinho has no further injury concerns.

Carlos Vinicius is expected to be back among the substitutes having played impressively during the Europa League win against LASK on Thursday.

Burnley vs. Tottenham Hotspur Head to Head

In their last nine EPL encounters between these two teams Spurs have registered five  wins,  three draws and lost once.

The Claret has won one of its nine EPL away matches.

The Spurs have kept five clean-sheets in their last nine EPL matches.

Tottenham has registered at least two goals in their last two of their away EPL matches against the host.

Gareth Bale is pushing for his first Premier League start since his return on loan from Real Madrid.

Burnley vs Tottenham Prediction

Burnley have started the season at a slow pace, but their performance statistics are still similar to last season where they were a mid-table team. The situation will be different and difficult for them this Monday with the current form of Harry Kane, who performed like the best striker in world football against West Ham. Kane has seven goals in eight Premier League appearances against Burnley – it’s hard to see Claret defense stopping him.
