Bayern München vs Atlético Madrid preview

Champions League holders Bayern Munich will start their defense against Spanish side Atletico Madrid at Allianz Arena. The Germany machines will have a tough start in the group stage encounter but always find a way to snatch a win. However, last season, the Bundesliga side had a superb season last campaign, winning all the 11 games as they went on to lift the Champions League.

Meanwhile, Diego Simeone’s men claimed a historic victory against Liverpool, as they eliminated the Premier League defending champions in the round of 16.

Match Facts

  • Last season, Munich scored 26 goals during the group stage.
  • Madrid finished second to Juventus in their group last season.
  • Bayern Munich have won their last eleven Champions League matches.
  • Robert Lewandowski netted in both games when Bayern beat Atletico twice on home turf back in 2016.
  • Munich registered a 4-1 victory against Armenia in their last Bundesliga encounter.
  • Atletico Madrid have not lost a single match since the start of the current LaLiga season. (W2,D2 and L0)
  • Madrid registered a 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo in their last Spanish League match.

Team News

Madrid’s new signing Luis Suarez is expected to make his Champions League debut this Wednesday. Another new signing Lucas Torreira is expected to be handed a start in place of Thomas Partey who switched to Premier League side Arsenal.

Munich’s Corentin Tolisso will be available for selection despite being sent off over the weekend.

Leroy Sane continues to be on the sidelines as well as duo Tanguy Nianzou and Chris Richards.

In the absence of Sane, Kingsley Coman could start but Douglas Costa also remains an option.

Head to head

Munich and Madrid have met four times, with the record turning out to be exactly even. Hansi Flick’s men have won two games and lost two in the last four encounters.

Bayern Munich win

This match is expected to be a very tight match and a slim victory for Munich is expected to be the outcome. The Bavarians will certainly test how Madrid’s defense is good this season and we are expecting the home team to be in front for the most of the match.

Bet254 is backing Bayern to win at odds of 1.55, the same as betway.

Anytime goalscorer

Lewandowski scored a brace for Munich in the weekend’s clash against Arminia Bielefeld. The Polish has been in fine form for Munich since last season, where he netted 56 goals in 49 club matches.

Lewandowski – 1.29 bet254, 1.27 betway

Serge Gnabry – 1.92 bet254, betway 1.83 betway.

Under 2.5

Diego Simeone’s side is so good at defending, having played four matches Madrid have already settled for two 0-0 draws. They have kept three clean sheets overall in typical Atletico fashion.
