While PSG continued with their dominance, Marseille suffered their first loss of the season under De Zebri with Monaco keeping the heat on the league leaders. We take a look at the major talking points of the round.
Strasbourg shocks Marseille on Sunday
Olympique Marseille suffered their first loss of the season after going 1-0 down to a less fancied Strasbourg.
The sole goal by the hosts was scored by Diego Moreira, his first in professional football after his time at Chelsea, to inflict De Zebri’s first loss of the team since taking over in the summer from premier league side Brighton.
The loss drops Marseille from the top spot they shared with PSG and Monaco down to third place in the league with their hosts now hoping that the win can spark their revival in the league.
Monaco leaves it late against Montpellier to pile pressure on PSG
Lamine Camara came off the bench to bag the winner for Monaco as they beat Montpellier 2-1 to pile pressure on leaders PSG.
Monaco was celebrating the club’s centenary in their Louis-II Stadium and commemorated the day decked out in black to commemorate their original 1924 jersey. They however found themselves behind when Rabby Nzingoula gave their opponents the lead just after 16 minutes. Folarin Balogun was to equalize the scores minutes to half-time before Camara popped up with the winner.
The comeback win saw the Principality side move level on 16 points with leaders PSG after six games.
Auxerre stops Brest brilliant run
Auxerre beat Brest 3-0 on Friday to put the brakes on the visitor’s recent run of form where they had won their last two games.
Elisha Owusu put the home side ahead with a left-foot shot after 26 minutes and captain Jubal doubled the lead from the penalty spot 11 minutes later. Hamed Junior Traorè, on loan from Bournemouth, then got his second goal in two games 14 minutes into the second half.
It was the second win for the hosts who are back in the French top flight after being promoted this season with both teams now on six points.
