Chelsea vs. Sheffield United Match preview

English Premier League continues this weekend as Stamford Bridge will be put blazing when Chelsea welcome Sheffield United in the eighth League match.

Frank Lampard’s side has scored 10 goals without conceding in three successive victories so far, while their much-improved clean sheet record now widens back five games.

Another victory on Saturday could, for sometime lift them to within one point of leaders Liverpool, and they will be firm favorites against the visitors’ side who are heading towards the bottom of the table.

The Blades are still searching for their maiden win of the Premier League campaign but face a tough test against Frank Lampard’s side this weekend

Match Facts

  • Chelsea has registered two victories, drawing twice while suffering a single defeat since the start of the current Premier League season.
  • The Blues have registered two clean sheets in their last five Premier League matches.
  •  Sheffield United have drawn once and lost six League matches this season.
  •  The Blades have at least scored a goal in their three out of seven EPL matches played.
  • More than two goals were registered in Chelsea’s two home League matches.

Chelsea vs. Sheffield United Head to Head

The last time the Blues won against the visitors was in the year 2007 where they thrashed the Blades 3-0. Their recent match in July saw United beat Chelsea 3-0 at home. In the first leg last season, the pair settled for a 2-2 draw, meaning the Blues failed to beat the Blades in the concluded campaign.

Chelsea team News

Kai Havertz tested positive for coronavirus ahead of the midweek Champions League win over Rennes, ruling him out until the next upcoming international break.

Christian Pulisic could be available for selection this weekend after he was forced out with a hamstring injury having resumed training.

Billy Gilmour is in the final stages of his recovery from a long-term knee injury and Saturday’s match could even be the last he misses as a result of the problem.

Sheffield United team news

United will definitely be without John Fleck, who is out injured with a back injury. Ethan Ampadu also set to miss out due talks in terms of his loan bureaucracy from Chelsea.

Jack O’Connell (knee) and Lys Mousset (toe) also remain sidelined.

Chelsea vs. Sheffield United Prediction

Sheffield have been characteristically impassive on the defensive end in losses to Liverpool (2-1) and Man City (1-0) in the past fortnight – but they are offering little response on the attack.

Last season Sheffield pulled off a 2-all draw at Stamford Bridge before thrashing Chelsea 3-0 at home. But the Blades are a shadow of that overachieving ensemble and the chance creating and free-scoring Blues should take out this clash comfortably.
