Football Prediction

Burnley’s pursuit of avoiding relegation in the English top flight will continue on Tuesday night when they make the trip to Wolves.

Hosts Wolves have been blowing hot and cold and come into the game after going down to league leaders Arsenal as they hope to recover lost points at home.

Burnley have had very little to celebrate in the 2023-24 campaign. After achieving promotion from the Championship with the Clarets with 101 points, Vincent Kompany showed his intent to achieve even more with the team by extending his contract until 2028. However, the former Manchester City man’s side have failed to perform as he would have liked, with Burnley sitting in the relegation zone with just two wins from fourteen games.

H2H / Stats

Recent Meetings;

9/7/22: Wolves 3-0 Burnley

24/4/22: Burnley 1-0 Wolves

1/12/21: Wolves 0-0 Burnley

25/4/21: Wolves 0-4 Burnley

21/12/20: Burnley 2-1 Wolves

Team News

Hosts Wolves won’t be without keeper Jose Sa due to an injury. It’s a huge blow for the hosts as the goalkeeper has started all fourteen Premier League games so far this season. Sa had to be taken off with just 23 minutes on the clock last time out after suffering an injury in the build-up to Arsenal’s second goal. The 30-year-old is joined by Pedro Neto on the Wanderers’ treatment list. Mario Lemina and João Gomes are both expected to return to the starting eleven after serving their suspension for accumulation of bookings last time out.

Burnley didn’t suffer any injuries in the win over Sheffield United last time out so it won’t be a surprise if head coach Vincent Kompany maintains his starting eleven. Lyle Foster has been struggling with depression and the centre-forward joins Nathan Redmond (injury) on the Clarets’ absentee list.

Probable Line-Up

Wolves XI: Bentley (GK), Gomes, Kilman, Bueno, Aït-Nouri, Gomes, Lemina, Ricner Bellegarde, Semedo, Cunha, Hee-chan

Burnley XI: Trafford (GK), Vitinho, O’Shea, Beyer, Taylor, Larsen, Berge, Brownhill, Koleosho, Rodriguez, Amdouni

Verdict

Wolves’ biggest weakness this season has been their defense. The Wanderers enter Tuesday’s game with a run of 12 consecutive games without a clean sheet and conceded at least two goals in four of their last five games. Burnley have had issues winning games, even when they take the lead, but their goalscoring record is not bad.
