29/10 Football Predictions: Man City travels to Old Trafford for Manchester Derby

Football Predictions

Old Trafford will be hosting the 191st Manchester Derby between Manchester United and Manchester City on Sunday.

Six positions and six points separate the two sides with the hosts having had a disappointing start to the season with a section of fans having already questioned manager Erik ten Hag tactics. The club’s off-field issues have also been a subject early in the season and this will be another tie where their resolve is tested.

City on the other hand has done everything right as they fight to defend their title. While they might not be at their devastating best, they are still the team to beat in the league and they’ll be looking to compile more misery on their neighbors who have been chasing their shadows in recent years.

H2H / Stats

Last season, City walloped United 6-3 at the Etihad, but United gained a measure of revenge at Old Trafford with a win. City also triumphed in the FA Cup Final on their way to that treble

Man City Wins: 59

Draw: 53

Manchester United win: 78

Team News

Casemiro is back from suspension but still a slight doubt due to injury, but Ten Hag is still likely to use him in such a big game. Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Lisandro Martinez, Amad Diallo, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Jadon Sancho all remain out of contention, but there is a chance Kobbie Mainoo returns to the bench.

For City, Kevin De Bruyne and Zack Steffen are the only senior players out with injuries. De Bruyne remains a huge miss, but there is still plenty of attacking talent for Pep Guardiola to choose from.

Probable Line Up

Man United XI: Onana (GK), Dalot, Varane, Maguire, Reguilon; Casemiro, Amrabat; Fernandes, Eriksen, Rashford; Hojlund.

Man City XI: Ederson (GK), Walker, Dias, Gvardiol; Stones, Rodri; Foden, Alvarez, Silva, Doku; Haaland.

Verdict

This match may well have been more frightening for Man Utd fans had it been played back in September, when Man City looked unstoppable. However, Arsenal and Wolves have since beaten the champions, so it’s not implausible to imagine a home win. But City will always show up in such games and its hard to see how the home side will beat them.

Bet on Man City win

Anytime Goalscorer

Scott McTominay

The Scottish has come up with huge goals for club and country time and time again and none more so than his injury time double the other week to turn defeat into victory against Brentford.

Erling Haaland

Haaland perhaps hasn’t quite hit the heights of last season where he hit a hat-trick against United in his first Manchester derby but he has been freely hitting goals and he will still be City’s main man in the tie.
