Football Predictions

Olympiacos host West Ham in an important UEFA Europa League fixture on Thursday night as they seek to rekindle their hopes in the competition.

For the Greek side, their poor start to the Europa League group stage means this is now a must-win match, especially with home advantage. They sit third in Group A with just a single point from two games, a 2-2 draw with TSC Backa Topola following a 3-2 loss at home to Freiburg.

As for West Ham, they’re sitting pretty at the top of the group with six points from two games, with an impressive 2-1 away win over Freiburg coming after beating TSC Backa Topola 3-1 at home. Another strong result here and their place in the knockout rounds will be all but assured.

H2H / Stats

The only previous meeting between these two clubs came across two leagues in the 1965/66 UEFA European Cup Winners’ Cup second round, with West Ham winning 6-2 on aggregate en route to the semi-finals.

24/11/65 – West Ham 4-0 Olympiacos

01/12/65 – Olympiacos 2-2 West Ham

Team News

Olympiakos’ Super League clash with Panathinaikos last weekend was abandoned after Juankar was left injured after being hit by a firecracker. Reports suggest that the 33-year-old was not directly hit by a missile, but one exploded near the left-back and knocked him off his feet.

Andreas Ndoj will not be available for Thursday’s match after receiving a red card against Backa Topola on Matchday 2, while Nicolás Freire, Santiago Hezze and Doron Leidner are injured.

West Ham on the other end is expected to make changes from the side that lost to Aston Villa over the weekend. Defender Kurt Zouma played no part in that game and will therefore be one of those who could benefit from this reshuffle.

Probable Line Up

Olympiacos XI: Paschalakis, odinei, Restos, Freire, Quini, Hezze, Camara, Podence, Masouras, Fortounis, El Kaabi

West Ham XI: Areola, Kehrer, Ogbonna, Zouma, Emerson, Ward-Prowse, Alvarez, Bowen, Paqueta, Benrahma, Ings

Verdict

Nine of West Ham’s last 11 matches in all competitions have featured over 2.5 goals and with qualification on the horizon, this is a match they would want to win.

Anytime Goalscorer

Jarrod Bowen

Bowen has been the Hammers’ main goalscorer this season with six goals and should keep his place in the starting eleven.
