Football Predictions

After finishing runners-up to treble-winning Man City in 2022/23, Arsenal will start another title mount with a clash against Nottingham Forest at the Emirates.

Their campaign has already started with a trophy after their penalty shootout victory over City in last weekend’s Community Shield match at Wembley.

Forest, meanwhile, will be looking to build on their 16th-place finish last term, after beating the odds and avoiding relegation when a lot of people had them favourites to go down. It was Forest’s home form which kept them in the division last term, with Steve Cooper’s side picking up 79% of their total points at the City Ground, but will need to pick up on the road in 2023/24 if they want to move up the table after recording just one way win all season last campaign.

H2H/Stats

Arsenal and Nottingham Forest have met in six games. Both teams have won three games apiece with none ending in a draw.

Team News

While Arsenal are the clear favourites in this game, they will be without the services of Gabriel Jesus who underwent a knee surgery. Oleksandr Zinchenko (calf) and Mohamed Elneny (knee) did not feature in pre-season so its still unclear if they’ll be available for the opener. More recent injuries have also kept Jorginho (knock), Folarin Balogun (foot), Reiss Nelson (toe) and Albert Sambi Lokonga (muscle) out of action. New signing Raya should at least make the bench.

Forest’s injury troubles of last season have not fully subsided. Omar Richards (hernia) is nearing a return from a year out while Wayne Hennessey (knee), Felipe (knee) and Moussa Niakhate (elbow) are out. Taiwo Awoniyi (ankle) is a doubt.

Probable Line-Ups

Arsenal XI: Ramsdale (GK), Gabriel, White, Timber, Saliba, Partey, Ødegaard, Rice, Havertz, Saka, Martinelli

Nottingham Forest XI: Hennessey (GK), Williams, Worrall, Bolly, Aurier, Gibbs-White, Kouyate, Shelvey, Elanga, Johnson, Wood

Verdict

Arsenal wants to hit the ground running and won’t be leaving anything to chance. They are starting their season at home and there is no reason why they shouldn’t see this match out comfortably.
