Football Predictions
Despite their recent slump, Chelsea FC travel to the Santiago Bernabeu for their UEFA Champions League quarter final clash against Real Madrid.
It will be Frank Lampard’s second game in charge since being appointed as the caretaker manager until the end of the season but he is aware that he will be against a Madrid side who are going all out for the trophy having been left far behind in the Laliga race by arch rivals Barcelona. In Ancelotti, Lampard will be coming up against his former coach with the Italian having won the league with Lampard during his spell at Stamford Bridge.
The winner of this clash has won the competition in the last 2 UCL campaigns and this time might be no different. Although, both these clubs are going through a difficult phase and a win here will do
H2H / Stats
Chelsea won 3-1 on aggregate in 2021 against Los Blancos, only for Ancelotti’s men to get their revenge in 2022, beating the London club 5-4 in the tightest of affairs.

Team news
Ancelloti rested several of his first-team stars over the weekend in the defeat to Villarreal but is expected to draft them back in the starting team on Wednesday. The likes of Luka Modric, Eder Militao and Federico Valverde were all given a breather with Karim Benzema introduced late on in the game and left unscathed.
On Chelsea’s side, the return of Ngolo Kante and Mason Mount who all trained with the team on Monday despite missing their loss to Wolves on Saturday is a boost. Defender Thiago Silva was pictured out on the grass too but is unlikely to be ready to return against Real, while Benoit Badiashile, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Noni Madueke are all ineligible after they missed out on being named in the Blues’ Champions League squad.
Probable Line ups
Real Madrid XI: Courtois, Carvajal, Rudiger, Militao, Alaba, Modric, Kroos, Valverde, Rodrygo, Benzema, Vinicius
Chelsea XI: Kepa, Chalobah, W.Fofana, Koulibaly, James, Enzo, Kante, Chilwell, Mudryk, Felix, Sterling
Verdict
Chelsea has a good h2h record against Real Madrid as mentioned above but with the Los Blancos putting all their efforts to win their 15th Champions League crown, the tie at the Bernabeu is the hosts to lose considering how they have always performed against team in the competition at their backyard.
Verdict: Real Madrid

Karim Benzema
Last season’s Champions League MVP award winner, Karim Benzema, has been in terrific form this term, bagging 25 goals in 32 competitive appearances for Madrid.
On top of that, his last ten Champions League goals have come against English clubs, including four against Chelsea, highlighting the Frenchman as the leading source of threat.
Joao Felix
He might not have had the impact he had hoped for since his arrival at Chelsea at the start of the year but his familiarity with Wednesday’s opponent should have him as the favorite player in the Blues squad to cause Madrid problems. He spent a four-and-a-half-year career at Real rivals Atletico Madrid and he would want to hit where it hurts for his Atletico fans.
