Home » 11/9: Daily Predictions: Latvia takes on Wales in Euro Qualifiers

Football Predictions

Latvia and Wales will lock horns in the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying Group D on Monday at the Skonto Stadium in Riga.

The match between Dainis Kazakevičs’s side and Rob Page’s team is seen as a formality with Latvia being one of the weakest teams in the group. Kazakevičs’s side are at the foot of their group having picked up zero points from three matches. They are as many as nine points behind leaders Turkey and six points behind Armenia, who are second.

Wales have developed into a footballing nation who tends to do well in qualifying campaigns and also progress to the finals. The Dragons finished third in the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and won the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League B. They also progressed to the Rounds of 16 at the Euro 2020 finals but they are fourth in their group with four points.

H2H/Stats

Latvia and Wales have only played twice in their history, the latest coming in the reverse fixture which saw Wales win just 1-0. The previous fixture was way back in 2004 in an international friendly which Wales won 2-0.

Team News

For hosts Latvia, Purins will be in goal for Latvia. Savalnieks, Oss, Balodis and Dubra will be the four defenders. Jaunzems, Saveljevs, Tobers and Cigankis will be the four midfielders. Uldrikis and Krollis will be the two forwards for Latvia against Wales.

Wales is expected to have Ward will be in goal for Wales against Latvia. Roberts, Mepham, Rodon and Williams will be the four defenders. Ampadu and Ramsey will be the two sitting midfielders and have will Brooks, Wilson and Broadhead ahead of them in a more attacking role. Moore will lead the line for Wales.

Probable Line-Ups

Latvia XI: Purins (GK), Savalnieks, Cernomordijs, Dubra, Sorokins, Tobers, Jaunzems, Emsis, Ikaunieks, Ciganiks, Uldrikis

Wales XI: Ward (GK), Roberts, Mepham, Rodon, Davies, Wilson, James, Ampadu, Broadhead, Johnson

Verdict

Latvia stands no chance against Wales going by the squad at their disposal. This is an opportunity for Wales too to close the gap between them and the leaders in the group.
