Football Predictions

After signing a new deal with Crystal Palace, veteran manager Roy Hodgson starts preparations for the new season with a friendly game against English side Barnet FC.

The Englishman has only one new face on his side in Jefferson Lerma who is joining the side on a free transfer after his deal with Bournemouth expired. The club fans have been on the management’s neck with star man Wilfried Zaha and Luka Milivojevic set to leave on free following the expiry of their contracts and they are demanding that their replacements be found early enough as the new season is just a month away.

Barnet will be playing the game for prestige reasons as they are one of the smallest squads in England with 21 players available for coach Dean Brennan. They might have the motivation of facing a Premier League side as the players would want to show their worth and comes to the game after holding Norwich City to a 1-1 draw in what was their first preseason game.

The sides have only met twice in their history all coming in friendly games.

16th July 2019: Barnet 6-2 Crystal Palace

11th July 2015: Barnet 3-5 Crystal Palace

Team News

Apart from Michael Olise who is expected to be out for some time due to an injury he picked while on international duty, Hodgson should field familiar faces for the tie with a chunk of his first-team players expected to arrive back for preseason on Monday.

Barnet has roped in Adebola Oluwo, Callum Stead, Sam Barratt, Ben Coker, and Reece Hall-Johnson for the new season and they are expected to be part of the team as the side tries to integrate the new faces in the team. The contracts expired for Kian Flanagan, Jamar Loza, Daniel Powell, and Sam Woods all expired and it remains to be seen if the club is willing to re-engage them before the season starts. Currently, they are out of the team and shouldn’t play a part.

Probable Line Ups

Crystal Palace XI: Whitworth, Guehi, Richards, Mitchell, Ward, Doucoure, Lerma, Eze, Schlupp, Ayew, Edouard.

Barnet XI: Walker, Armstrong, Coker, Collinge, Gorman, Hall-Johnson, Kabamba, Oluwo, Pritchard, Revan, Senior.

Barnet might have sunned Norwich in their first preseason game by coming out with a draw in what might have boosted their morale. But they come against Palace side who are also looking for a result they can build on heading into the new season. The gap between the two sides are worlds apart and no matter who is selected by Roy Hodgson, Palace should see this out comfortably.
