Manchester City vs. Liverpool Match preview

Premier League defending champions Liverpool will be traveling to the Etihad Stadium to take on Manchester City this Sunday. Liverpool are the reigning champions and currently sit at the top of the Premier League table. It is a tough match since they may pull a rare defeat against Manchester City.

The Citizens lie five points behind the Merseysiders on the log, but have a game in hand, so three points on Sunday could see them truly back in the race.

Both teams have been entirely not convincing of late and both have been hampered by injury problems.

Manchester City vs. Liverpool Head to Head

Manchester City has won thrice, drawn twice, and lost four times of nine encounters against the visitors. The Etihad outfit has kept three clean sheets in her nine Premier League encounters against Liverpool.

Last season, the two heavyweights met twice in the Premier League, with Liverpool beating 3-1 in the first leg at Anfield. City thrashed Liverpool in the second leg staged at the Etihad, picking maximum points with a comfortable 4-0 victory.

Manchester City team news

Aguero is currently nursing a hamstring problem – sustained in City’s draw with West Ham United – the forward has missed the last three matches. Although the forward is likely to return after the international break, he is not yet to be ruled out of the clash, as Gabriel Jesus returned from injury off the bench in Manchester City’s win over Olympiacos in midweek.

Phil Foden and Ilkay Gundogan are campaigning to start in midfield alongside Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne.

With three goals in his last four appearances, Ferran Torres may be considered for the clash on Sunday.

In last season’s encounter against Liverpool, Riyad Mahrez didn’t start either league game and could likely make way for Jesus to start in attack.

Liverpool team news

Diogo Jota scored a hat-trick against Atalanta puzzles Klopp on his selection with Roberto Firmino on the bench. The boss has defended Firmino to heights, however, it would be a surprise to see him left out of the side on Sunday even if his form warrants it.

Manchester City vs. Liverpool Prediction

Manchester City is preparing to take on Liverpool in the biggest match of the season so far.

Pep Guardiola’s soldiers are desperate to regain the Premier League title, but the champions are already back on top of the table, and Sunday’s clash at the Etihad Stadium – even so early in the season – is crucial to their chances of challenging for the crown.
