Chelsea will host Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund at Stamford Bridge this Tuesday in the Champions League second leg round of 16. Chelsea finally ended their bad run of results over the weekend as they beat Leeds United 1-0.
Wesley Fofana scored the only goal in the 53rd minute after receiving a pass from Ben Chilwell, the only goal that made the difference. On the other end, Borussia Dortmund continued with their good run following a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig last Friday.
These two sides will be battling it out to reach the quarter finals of the ongoing tournament. In their last battle, Dortmund secured a 1-0 victory in Germany with Kadem Adeyemi scoring the only goal in the second half.
Team news
Mason Mount is ruled out for Chelsea through suspension, while Edouard Mendy, Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva, N’Golo Kante and Armando Broja are absent due to injury.
Reece James is expected to return to the side here, while Christian Pulisic will also hope to face former employers Borussia Dortmund.
Graham Potter used a three-man backline against Leeds on Saturday, and may go with the same setup here.
For Borussia, Julian Ryerson is suspended, though he was unlikely to have started ahead of Marius Wolf at right-back.
Donyell Malen and Youssoufa Moukoko are among those absent.
Verdict
A goalless draw will see Dortmund advance to the next stage but we don’t expect the Germany side to approach the game with a defensive mentality.
Chelsea will be buoyed by their goal at the weekend, but it’s unlikely to be enough for the Blues here.
