06/7: Daily Predictions: New York City FC hosts Charlotte FC in the MLS

Football Predictions

New York City will be looking to build on their weekend’s win over CF Montreal when they host Charlotte FC in the MLS at the Citi Field.

The win over Montreal saw the hosts end an 11-game winless streak and they will be brimming with confidence as they are coming up against a Charlotte side who are without a win in their last five outings.

Charlotte are currently on a three-match winless run away from home in this competition, with Christian Lattanzio’s men failing to hang onto a trio of advantages as the visiting team this year, squandering a 2-0 lead to draw the New York Red Bulls the last time out (2-2), while falling at Real Salt Lake (3-1) and St Louis City (3-1) earlier in the campaign.

Jumping out to an early lead and scoring late has been Charlotte’s story when facing New York City, scoring the opener in all three meetings against them before the 10-minute mark, while two of their winning goals versus the Pigeons have occurred beyond the 70th minute, including earlier this season when an own-goal by Richy Ledezma gave them a 3-2 victory.

Recent Meetings;

6th May 2023: Charlotte 3-2 New York City FC

10th September 2022: Charlotte 1-0 New York City FC

18th August 2022: New York City FC 1-3 Charlotte

Team News

Hosts New York will be without the services of Santiago Rodriguez due to suspension, James Sands is still with the US national team at the Gold Cup and Thiago Martins sat out of their previous encounter because of a knee injury and is unlikely to be fit for this match.

On Charlotte’s side, Adilson Malanda is still doubtful because of a left lower leg issue, Hamady Diop is dealing with a lower abdominal injury, while Scott Arfield will be eligible for selection when the secondary transfer window officially opens on Wednesday having recently signed from Scottish Premiership side Rangers.

Probable Line Ups

New York City FC XI: Freese; Gray, Chanot, Haak; Ilenic, Morales, Parks, Cufre; Pellegrini, Pereira; Magno

Charlotte FC XI: Kahlina; Tuiloma, Sobocinski, Jones, Lindsey; Swiderski, Westwood, Bender; Vargas, Copetti, Meram

Charlotte has proved before in this meeting that they can score goals. While their form isn’t that pleasing coming to this tie, they will be confident about their chances as the team they are against hasn’t been at their best too. As the hosts New York won’t be taking things lying down and their win against Montreal might have the morale booster they needed to kickstart their wins.
