Football Predictions
Iceland U19 and Spain 19 will meet in their first match in the European U19 Championship on Tuesday evening in Malta.
Iceland U19 surprised everyone to even succeed in qualifying for EURO U19 since there are only eight teams in the tournament. Firstly they finished second in Group B, behind France, but the second qualifying stage was impressive. In the second phase, they finished first in a group with England U19, Turkey U19, and Hungary U19 and made a historic success for this team.
Spain U19 arrive in the tournament as one of the favorites owing to their consistency in such tournaments. They were very good in the Qualifiers, but it was much closer in the second phase than expected. Spain U19 was tied with Denmark with seven points but had a much better goal difference and secured EURO.
H2H/Stats
The teams have only met once since 2007 with Spain emerging as the winners of the solo tie. Iceland however are coming to the tie in impeccable form having won their last four fixtures against Hungary, England, Turkey, and Kazakhtan. In the same period, Spain lost one game (against Mauritania) but won their tie against Denmark, Ukraine and Mauritania.
Team News
Iceland arrive in this game with a major headache as their top goalscorer, Orri Oskarsson, who scored six goals in the Qualifiers, won be featured in the tournament. There has been a tug-of-war between the national team and his club FC Kobenhavn who claim that the player is injured and should be given rest despite the national team intimating that the injury could be contained and that the player should be involved in some games in the showpiece.
The team is also without Kristian Hlynsson, who was an important piece in the Qualifiers, scoring one and assisting one goal.
On Spain side, they will be without the services of Angel Alarcon due to a muscle injury. He was one of the better players for Spain U19, scoring three goals in the Qualifiers.
Probable Line Ups
Iceland XI: Lukas Petersson, Karlsson, Logi Robertsson, Thorsteinn Antonsson, Arnar Gislason, Bjarni Brynjolfsson, Gisli Thordarson, Sigurbergur Jorundsson, Eggert Aron Gudmundsson, Adolf Birgisson, Hilmir Mikaelsson
Spain XI: Iribarne, Fresneda, Casas, Gasiorowski, Valle Gomez, Akhomach, Manuel Angel, Cesar Palacios, Gonzalo Garcia, Victor Barbera and Daniel Rodriguez
Verdict
Spain U19 is the team with the most titles on EURO U19. Currently, they have eight, while France U19 has seven, and England 19, Portugal U19, and Germany U19 have three each. While Iceland is the team on form, going past Spain might be a tall order on Tuesday.
