Football Predictions
After their preseason tour, Premier League side Arsenal returns home for the start of serious business when they take on Monaco in the Emirates Cup on Tuesday.
The Mikel Arteta side has been camping in the USA and was joined by his new signings as they seek to wrestle the league title from Manchester City; the Emirates Cup being just of the games that they will use to gauge their preparedness ahead of their weekend clash against City in the Community Shield.
Monaco, meanwhile, is hoping to put aside their disappointing end to the 2022-23 campaign, in which they lost their final three Ligue 1 matches and slipped to sixth in the table, failing to qualify for European competition altogether.
Philippe Clement was relieved of his duties last month and he has since been replaced by Austrian coach Adi Hutter, who returns to management after a year away from the dugout – the 53-year-old’s last job was a 10-month spell with Borussia Monchengladbach between July 2021 and May 2022.
H2H/Stats
Since 2014, the teams have met thrice with Arsenal winning one to Monaco’s two.
Team News
It remains to be seen if Arsenal will parade Declan Rice in the game after missing their last outing against Barcelona. Rice, Jurrien Timber, and Kai Haverts have been the new faces in the Mikel Arteta side and the latter two are expected to play some part. The Emirates Cup might be another opportunity for Arsenal fans to see who between Haverts, Trossard, and Martinelli is preferred by Arteta in attack as the side is spoilt for choices in the attack.
Monaco on the other side has only made just the one signing so far this summer, recruiting goalkeeper Philipp Kohn from Red Bull Salzburg, while Jean Marcelin, Arthur Zagre and Jean Lucas have all left the club permanently, the latter of whom joined Santos.
Probable Line Ups
Arsenal XI: Ramsdale, White, Timber, Gabriel, Zinchenko, Partey, Rice, Odegaard, Martinelli, Saka, Haverts
Monaco XI: Kohn; Vanderson, Maripan, Disasi, Henrique; Lemarechal, Fofana; Martins, Minamino, Volland; Embolo
Verdict
The Emirates Cup has always provided goals previously and this shouldn’t be any different. While it is a trophy that opponents gave Arsenal a run for their money, the home side looks stronger this time and should see this off in front of their fans.
