16 August 2024 is the start date for the English Premier League 2024/25 season. Defending champions Manchester City will take a trip to London to face Chelsea. These are our predictions for the outright winner, top two finish, top four finish, relegation candidates and top goalscorer.

2024/25 Winner

1.    Arsenal

You thought you would see Manchester City? Your sentiments are understood, and valid too. After almost letting it slip in the last two seasons, they rallied to reclaim it in the last three months of the league. However, Arsenal can be said to have slipped up in both years, which made things easier for City.

The fact that the Gunners have not found a way to defeat the Cityzens emphatically also presents a problem for them. However, Mikel Arteta is definitely not about to allow another slip-up to happen again. Arsenal are strengthening their squad and will have Jurrien Timber back to also strengthen their defence.

The form of players like William Saliba, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice and Kai Havertz during the Euros will also be a big plus for the team as they look to end the disappointment of nearly winning the title. Most importantly, the fact that Manchester City have also almost lost the title to Arsenal on two occasions is unsustainable. They may not slip up, but the Gunners will just about edge them to the win.

We may end up seeing a repeat of the 2011/12 season, where it took a magical moment from Sergio Aguero to win the league for City. This time we expect it to be Arsenal celebrating after that magical moment. City’s odds are higher, of course, thanks to the fact that they have won the Premier League four times in a row.

However, Arsenal’s win is more bankable in our books. The best odds on Arsenal being crowned champions can be found at 2.85.

Top two finish

  1. Arsenal
  2. Manchester City

This goes without saying. Arsenal and Manchester City have been the two best sides in the league for the last two seasons. We expect to see mentor (Pep Guardiola) and mentee (Mikel Arteta) go head-to-head for the trophy once again, with Arsenal finally nicking it and City finishing a close second.

The real battle, as stated earlier, will be the distance between both teams. Will it be points? Will it be by goal difference? Or will it be fair play numbers? This is an interesting battle worth looking out for!

Top four finish

  1. Arsenal @ 1.23 odds
  2. Manchester City @ 1.10 odds
  3. Chelsea @ 2.35 odds
  4. Manchester United @ 3.00 odds

Our selection of Manchester United to make the top four at the end of the 2024/25 season will turn some heads. However, the reasoning is simple: Erik ten Hag is going to be backed in the market, has a new dugout and will be working with a more competent backroom staff to ensure that the club runs well.

Chelsea under Enzo Maresca are not as exciting but the same core that Mauricio Pochettino finished last season with remains. This unity will help them get back into the top four.

Relegation

The Premier League’s unpredictability makes it difficult to make the smart prediction and that is selecting the newly-promoted sides to be relegated at the end of a season. However, betting on Ipswich Town remaining in the Premier League is a tall ask.

Southampton are back on the first time of asking but Russell Martin’s inexperience will be a problem for the Saints, just like Rob Edwards’ was for Luton Town.

  1. Ipswich Town
  2. Southampton

Top scorer

Erling Haaland

The only reason anybody gets a Golden Boot over Erling Braut Haaland is if they are named Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or Robert Lewandowski. Even at that, they have to play for super teams like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern Munich. Not even Kylian Mbappé and his insane goal record can stand up to this Norwegian beast when it comes to finishing.

The striker is a man of few actions, and few movements but killer focus, which is to bury the ball in the back of the net. It took him only one season with some of the best service in the world to break the all-time Premier League scoring record.

In his second season which was marred by injury to both him and his service, he still managed to outscore everybody. The best odds for Erling Haaland to finish as top scorer can be found at 1.68.
